A historic occasion for grime has officially passed and who else could have done it? Who brought you The Notorious BIG? Founded Bad Boy Records? Who dances like he’s been sat bare back on a camel for far to long? Who ask way too many rhetoric questions? Yep you guessed it, Diddy did it.

Grimes historic moment begun when Diddy put out a tweet asking who was ‘hot enough’ to be on the Grime remix of ‘Hello Good Morning’ . As you can imagine Twitter went crazy with hordes of MC’s spitting, rapping and regurgitating their grime in an attempt to blow big. But only one could be chosen…Step up Skepta!

He’s not the most masterful lyricist on the scene but that’s what makes him! It’s that blunt, 100% British, tongue in cheek style that draws you to him.

With lines like that its hard not to take notice. Luckily for the scene Skepta really stepped up his game for this one.

Early yesterday morning on DJ Logan Sama‘s Kiss FM, grime heads across the UK locked in, anxiously awaiting for the official Grime remix of Diddy Dirty Money‘s smash “Hello Good Morning”. The track itself is an actual authentic-sounding grime piece, far from the recent Grime to Mainstream crossover shit we’ve heard jizzing all over the pop charts and pre-teens. And its for that exact reason why this is a genre defining moment with regards to the mainstream perception of grime. Lets hope we see grime taking more steps like this and a big step away from pop.

Skream,the figurehead of dubstep, the man that brought it to life, the head honcho, mr big subs, the wonder kid…Whatever name you call him (the majority of them I clearly just made up) Skream really is the main man of dubstep. He’s attitude, remixes, ever evolving sound coupled with an unwillingness to be placed in a bracket has always kept him a cut above the rest. His new album ‘Outside The Box’ due for release on the 9th of August sees Skream once again breaking down the template and genre brackets of dubstep by upping the tempos and layering potent euphoria’s echoing the golden days of 90′s rave.

“I’m trying to bring rave back,” says Skream…

“I don’t even see it as dubstep any more, I just see it as this big community of UK bass music. It’s really interesting and it’s running shit at the minute,”

And he’s once again spot on! It really is just a big community of UK artist sharing and blurring the lines of genres to keep you dancing. There’s no genre that can hold these many influences, but if I was gonna name it id simply call it the 140 Bass Movement, well 130 – 145 but its not as catchy. When Skream first distributed “Listening To The Records On My Wall” over the web a whole gang of narrow minded twits began to pluck new genres from the stale air that surrounds their brains. “Drumsstep”, “liquid dubstep”, “Jungle”, “DnB”, it’s amazing why these people can’t listen to a sick tune without feeling the urge to bracket it in a genre and then bicker like grannies all over the web. Take a look at the comments on youtube and you’ll see what I mean…

Located in the bar/club area of Caseopeia, the vibes of Suicide Cirus is where industrial ruggedness meets neon hipness. The anal doorman reflects the selective crowd within the club. Although the no photo policy could normally be seen to constitute the exclusiveness of a venue, in Berlin this rule is simply enforced to prevent any evidence of vomiting pill heads in the dark corners and speeded up techno freak in the front line. This prevents bad press for the club and provides a safe haven for wreck heads to chew their faces off all night without having to worry about being tagged on facebook the next morning by your new mate maximillian, whom you met in the que for the toilet…

Self titled ‘young african art market’or what i consider as ‘the coolest Caribbean squat in the world’ is located opposite Berlin Ostbahnhof station along the east side of the Berlin wall. The colourful street style decorated venue is predominantly open air with 4 bars, a volleyball court, basketball court, skate ramp and main stage for live music. During the day the place is packed with people of all ages, perfect atmosphere to watch Germany annihilate Argentina in the World Cup while munching on some tasty jerk chicken and sipping on some ‘Afri Cola’ in the sun! At night international and local acts cover the bill with the likes of Dead Prez, Eek A Mouse, The Mighty Pow Wow Zion Train. YAAM is most definitely your summer time cotch!

Sunday night winds down the week with of 60′s Disco which goes hand in hand with the relaxed atmosphere in the outdoor deck area where hammocks and deck chairs are scattered about. If it wasn’t for the loud American traveller trying to speak broken German to a group next to you, one could easily drift off to never never land!

Oskreutz is A industrial venue located by a high way cross over with a little red door. The club would otherwise be unnoticed if it isn’t for the meat head doormen and the large crowd of ravers in the front. We attended ://About blank, a tehcno/house night featuring a list of Berlin based DJ’s: Marc Schneider, Sasse, Elie Eidelman as well as one of UK’s finest tech-house producers Ewan Pearson. The club is 2 floors, indoors/outdoors and the weekend events last 48 hours, so bed time is nowhere near! Indoor dance floor is practically a large corridor with windows which tint red when the sun comes up. The outdoor area is a semi-trimmed forest made up of random seating arrangements, dj booth and bar. A glowing carrivan along with other tents and comfy corners in the forest acts as a private booths for those who want to get away from the party. Personally the foozeball table seemed to be the place where we spent our early hours, eagerly competing over the sound of electric rain drops!
