A historic occasion for grime has officially passed and who else could have done it? Who brought you The Notorious BIG? Founded Bad Boy Records? Who dances like he’s been sat bare back on a camel for far to long? Who ask way too many rhetoric questions? Yep you guessed it, Diddy did it.
Grimes historic moment begun when Diddy put out a tweet asking who was ‘hot enough’ to be on the Grime remix of ‘Hello Good Morning’ . As you can imagine Twitter went crazy with hordes of MC’s spitting, rapping and regurgitating their grime in an attempt to blow big. But only one could be chosen…Step up Skepta!
He’s not the most masterful lyricist on the scene but that’s what makes him! It’s that blunt, 100% British, tongue in cheek style that draws you to him.
With lines like that its hard not to take notice. Luckily for the scene Skepta really stepped up his game for this one.
Early yesterday morning on DJ Logan Sama‘s Kiss FM, grime heads across the UK locked in, anxiously awaiting for the official Grime remix of Diddy Dirty Money‘s smash “Hello Good Morning”. The track itself is an actual authentic-sounding grime piece, far from the recent Grime to Mainstream crossover shit we’ve heard jizzing all over the pop charts and pre-teens. And its for that exact reason why this is a genre defining moment with regards to the mainstream perception of grime. Lets hope we see grime taking more steps like this and a big step away from pop.
